Garage door work in Rancho Cordova

Why does one side of town need a different door than the other? Because Rancho Cordova was built in two waves. The heavy concentration of 1950s–1960s single-story ranch tracts went up around the former Mather Air Force Base and Aerojet employment. Then came 1990s–2000s subdivisions on the east and south edges. Two eras, two sets of problems.

In the older sections, expect an attached single-car garage. The opening is usually 8x7 or 9x7. Headroom above the opening is shallow. Extension-spring systems are still in service on plenty of these. Those need a safety cable retrofit. That is a cable run through the spring so a break does not send steel across the garage. It is cheap insurance and it takes minutes per side.

Newer tracts run 16x7 steel doors, two-car and occasional three-car layouts. Different failure pattern: bent struts, worn rollers, opener travel drifting out of adjustment.

Terrain here is level near the American River corridor, so the slabs are generally cooperative. Sun does the damage. Long west-facing exposures on the ranch stock chalk the paint and split bottom seals. Press a thumb into the bottom rubber. If it cracks instead of flexing, it is done.

Measure your opening before calling. It tells us most of what we need.

Frequently Asked Questions

My garage has two springs stretched along the tracks, not one spring over the door. Is that a problem?

That's an extension-spring system, and it's still in service on a lot of the 1950s and 1960s ranch homes here. It isn't automatically unsafe, but it does need containment cables running through the middle of each spring so a broken spring can't whip across the garage. Plenty of the older single-car garages in the tracts near the former Mather and Aerojet job centers were never retrofitted. If yours has no cables, that's the first thing to fix, and it's an inexpensive add compared to most repairs. Whether we retrofit or convert you to a torsion setup depends on your headroom, which in these homes is often shallow.

How fast can someone actually get here?

Rancho Cordova is flat and the street grid is straightforward, so drive time is rarely the issue. Scheduling is. A broken spring or a door stuck down with a car trapped inside gets moved up the list. If you call in the morning we can usually be there the same day; afternoon calls sometimes push to the next morning depending on how many emergencies are already ahead of you. We'll tell you honestly which one it is when you call rather than giving you a vague window.
